BC Racing BR vs Extreme Low Coilovers: Differences

BC Racing BR Series vs Extreme Low coilovers: shorter bodies and springs, shared monotube design and damping, which to choose, setup and prices.

BC Racing’s BR Series and BR Series Extreme Low coilovers share the same design: a monotube shock with 30 levels of damping adjustment, ride height set through the shock body separately from spring preload, a concave lower locking ring, and a fully rebuildable construction. The Extreme Low version uses shorter shock bodies and shorter springs so the car can sit lower than a standard BR kit allows while staying usable on the street. Choose the standard BR for a balance of ride quality and shock travel, and Extreme Low only if you want a very low stance.

Which should you choose?

  • Standard BR if you want a moderate drop with good ride quality, daily driving and occasional track days. Keeping more shock travel helps comfort and grip on rough roads.
  • Extreme Low if your goal is a slammed stance, accepting less ground clearance and more care over speed bumps, driveways and steep entrances.

Why body-adjusted height matters

Because ride height is set by moving the shock body rather than compressing the spring, lowering the car does not use up shock travel, and spring preload stays where it should be. That is why the Extreme Low kit shortens the bodies and springs rather than simply winding a standard kit down.

Damping and spring rates

The 30-level damping knob adjusts compression and rebound together; start in the middle and adjust a few clicks at a time. BC supplies standard spring rates unless you ask for softer or stiffer springs or SWIFT springs. See what coilovers are and how to adjust them.

After installing

Get an alignment after setting the height, check the locking rings and recheck height after a week of driving. Very low settings can reduce damper life, since the damper spends more time near the end of its travel; see how long coilovers last.
