Brushless vs brushed trolling motors
A conventional (brushed) motor transfers power through carbon brushes that wear over time. A brushless motor switches the current electronically instead, so there are no brushes to wear and less energy is lost as heat. That is why brushless trolling motors are marketed for quieter operation and longer run time from the same batteries. Minn Kota’s brushless models carry the QUEST name; Garmin’s Force motors are brushless across the range.
