AWE Track vs Touring Exhaust: Sound, Drone and Price

AWE Track vs Touring Edition exhaust: the 180 Technology resonator difference, sound and drone, power, legal considerations and listed prices.

AWE’s Track and Touring Edition catbacks share the same stainless construction, routing and mid-pipe bullet resonator. The difference is at the rear: the Touring Edition adds AWE’s patented 180 Technology resonators, which cancel drone at cruising speed, while the Track Edition leaves them out, so it is AWE’s loudest option and the exhaust note comes through largely unfiltered inside and outside the car. Choose Touring for a car you drive on the highway every day, and Track if maximum sound matters more than a quiet cabin.

What is exhaust drone?

Drone is a low, steady hum at certain engine speeds, usually at highway cruise, that can be tiring on long drives. AWE’s 180 Technology resonators target those frequencies without restricting flow. See exhaust drone.

Does the Track Edition make more power?

Both are straight-through designs with the same tubing, so any difference in power between them is small. AWE measured up to 11 hp and 11 ft-lb at the wheels with the Track Edition on the WRX. See does exhaust add horsepower?

Installation

Both editions bolt on in place of the factory catback using the stock hangers, and both use the same pipe sizes, so fitment and installation time are the same. Soak old clamps and bolts with penetrating oil first, and replace any worn rubber hangers while the exhaust is down so the new system does not rattle against the body.

Legal and practical considerations

A louder exhaust can draw attention from neighbors and enforcement where noise limits apply, and AWE itself warns that the Track Edition is loud enough to be too much for many drivers. Check local rules before choosing the louder system.

Other cars and options

AWE builds Track and Touring versions for many cars, including the WRX, BRZ, GR86, GR Corolla and Supra. For other approaches, compare the MAPerformance systems with a swappable Street or Race tip section, and see titanium vs stainless exhaust and axle-back vs cat-back.
