Spot-Lock is Minn Kota’s GPS anchoring feature: the trolling motor holds the boat on a fixed GPS position, correcting for wind and current, so you can fish a spot without dropping an anchor. These 12 Minn Kota Terrova and Ultrex motors come with Advanced GPS and Spot-Lock.

Trolling motors with Spot-Lock

Terrova or Ultrex?

Both hold position with Spot-Lock. The Terrova is controlled mainly by its wireless remote and stows with a lever; the Ultrex is steered with a foot pedal through power-assisted cable steering. Riptide versions are built for saltwater, and QUEST versions use Minn Kota’s brushless motor. See Terrova vs Ultrex vs Ulterra for a full comparison, or shop the Minn Kota Terrova and Minn Kota Ultrex ranges.

How does Spot-Lock work?

The motor’s GPS receiver records the position you lock, then the motor steers and adjusts its thrust automatically to bring the boat back whenever wind or current pushes it off that spot. Because the motor keeps working the whole time it holds position, Spot-Lock draws on your trolling motor batteries; in strong wind or current expect shorter run time.

Before you buy a Spot-Lock motor

  • Thrust and voltage: holding position in wind takes power, so size the motor for your loaded boat weight. See the trolling motor size guide.
  • Batteries: 24V and 36V models need batteries wired in series. See how to wire a 24 volt trolling motor.
  • Shaft length: the prop must stay submerged when the bow rises, so taller bows need longer shafts.
