The Chevrolet Camaro has had six generations: 1967-1969, 1970-1981, 1982-1992, 1993-2002, the 5th gen from 2010 to 2015 and the 6th gen from 2016 to 2024. The 5th gen revived the Camaro after a seven-model-year gap, with the 6.2-liter LS3 or L99 V8 in the SS, and the lighter 6th gen moved to GM’s Alpha platform with the 6.2-liter LT1 in the SS.

5th gen vs 6th gen Camaro
- Platform: the 6th gen is smaller and lighter, on GM’s Alpha platform shared with the Cadillac ATS and CTS.
- V8: the 5th gen SS used the Gen IV LS3/L99; the 6th gen SS uses the Gen V LT1 with direct injection.
- Parts: most engine, intake and supercharger parts are generation-specific, so order by model year and engine.
How to tell a 5th gen from a 6th gen
The model year settles it: 2010-2015 is 5th gen and 2016-2024 is 6th gen. The 6th gen is visibly lower and more compact, with slimmer headlights and taillights, while the 5th gen has the taller, retro-styled body inspired by the 1969 Camaro. For engine parts, also confirm whether a 5th gen SS has the manual-transmission LS3 or the automatic L99, since some parts and calibrations differ between them.
Supercharging a 5th or 6th gen
Both generations are popular for centrifugal superchargers. The 6th gen LT1 uses direct injection, so fuel system requirements are different from the port-injected 5th gen LS3 and L99; each kit listing states what it includes and what it needs.
