There is no single number. A supercharger’s gain depends on how much boost it makes, the engine it is bolted to, the fuel system and the tune. On the Paxton NOVI centrifugal kits sold for C5, C6 and C7 Corvettes and the Camaro SS, East Coast Supercharging (ECS) quotes gains of roughly 100 to 400 horsepower depending on the kit.
What decides the gain
- Boost level: set by the head unit and pulley size. Larger head units such as the NOVI 2200 support far more power than a NOVI 1200.
- The engine: displacement, compression ratio and whether the engine is stock or built.
- Fuel: more air needs more fuel; bigger gains need larger injectors and fuel pumps.
- Intercooling and the tune: cooler charge air and a matching engine calibration let the engine use the boost safely.
- How it is measured: wheel horsepower (whp/rwhp) is measured at the wheels and reads lower than engine (crank) horsepower because of drivetrain losses.
Centrifugal vs positive-displacement
A centrifugal supercharger like the Paxton NOVI is belt-driven and builds boost with engine speed, so the biggest gains come near redline. Positive-displacement (roots and twin-screw) superchargers sit on top of the engine and make boost from low rpm.
