Choosing a 6 HP outboard
- Shaft length: match it to your transom height: about 15″ for a short shaft, 20″ for a long shaft and 25″ for an extra-long shaft. In the model code, S means short, L long, and X, XL or UL extra-long. See our outboard shaft length guide.
